Reboot PC if necessary.
Run the driver setup file in compatible mode and check.
Right click on the driver setup file and select properties. Select 'run this program in compatible mode for ' and select the previous OS.
Which graphic card do you have in your motherboard? I recommend you to update the latest chipset and BIOS drivers and check if it helps.

1. All windows updates have been in stalled and the laptop has been rebooted numerous times.
2. The video driver from Nvidia is specifically for Windows 10, so compatibility mode doesn't apply.
3. The graphics card on the motherboard is 'Intel HD Graphics 4000'.
4. The chipset driver is the latest from Intel.
5. I have adjusted both the laptop resolution as well as the attached monitor resolutions, but it doesn't fix the problem. I currently have them both set to 'Recommended' which is 1920x1080 for the laptop screen and 1280x1024 for the attached monitor.

Here is the solution I found on-line from Nvidia's forums. Seems a lot of people have the same issue. This did fix my system.
Go to the NVIDiA control panel
Display > 'Adjust desktop size and position' and setting the scaling mode for both displays to 'Full-screen'
instead of the default 'Aspect ratio'
Select 'Override the scaling mode set by games and programs' for both displays as well. . .”
This did fix my system.
